Staying up-to-date on various legislative actions that promote an increase in community-based living is a requirement of our team to keep our customers and care providers informed.

Olmstead Ruling

In June 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court in Olmstead v. L.C. held that states must provide inviduals with development disability choices to be placed in community based setting when deemed appropriate by medical professionals, and when that placement can be reasonably completed within state budgets. The Olmstead Ruling has accelerated the transfer of the individuals with development disabilities currently residing in state institutional facilities to community based settings.

Priced Out 2008

Priced Out is the newest report published by the Technical Assistance Collaborative (TAC) and the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) Housing Task Force. This report documents the continued lack of affordable, accessible housing for individuals with significant long-term disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, mental illness, and chronic health conditions.
