September marks Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness (TBI) Month. Defined, TBI is a brain dysfunction caused by an outside force, usually a violent blow to the head. It is an important public health problem in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with a disability caused by a TBI and face numerous challenges in their efforts to live a full and productive life. It is the top cause of death and disability in people between the ages of 1 to 44 years.
