Kate’s history with Scioto dates back 6 years; however, she brought with her a wealth of knowledge from her already successful career in the field of developmental disabilities.
Kate began her career as a Waterfront Specialist at Camp Easter Seal in Virginia during her summer breaks in college. There she was able to share her passion for water sports with children and adults with various disabilities. Upon completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, she taught for seven years before heading back to school for her Master’s Degree in Counselor Ed.
Kate then began working for a provider organization, where she was quickly promoted to various levels of administration encompassing multiple states. Kate learned about Scioto while working as a provider and was a customer of ours. She was working for the State of North Carolina as the manager of mental health licensure survey teams when she decided to join the Scioto team.
Kate spends her days educating and informing residential providers, provider associations, state developmental disabilities departments, national developmental disability organizations and other stakeholders on the housing services Scioto offers. She finds she has the most success sharing stories of Scioto’s achievements. She loves solving problems for the providers and is so great at it since she understands their concerns.
Kate loves spending time with her immediate and extended family. When they are all together there is a LOT of laughter and love. They spend time cooking, playing games, and watching sports.
Kate has many hobbies, including traveling for both work and pleasure. She has been all over the world and is gearing up for a Caribbean cruise in late March where she will spend most of her time in the water snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins. When she is not traveling she is watching East Carolina University football (Go Pirates!)
Kate says the most rewarding part of her job is “meeting SO many interesting people who have committed their professions to supporting people with disabilities in some fashion. It’s so fun to tell people about the services we offer and then watch their reactions; it’s very exciting to do something different every day. “
We could not agree more! Kate is a vital member of our team. We are so thankful for the knowledge and passion she brings to our great company!
Scioto finds and purchases properties that are safe, convenient and affordable homes for people with developmental disabilities. We work with provider organizations, state agencies, families, and individuals to ensure the homes we purchase are specific to the needs of the people who will be living there.
