“Shifting Perspectives,” a photographic exhibition, will be on display at the Dublin Arts Council until November. This body of work will provide the viewer with great insight into the lives of people living with Down syndrome. A selection of photographs, taken over a nine-year period by photographers in the United Kingdom, depicts the everyday interactions of people of all ages who are living with Down syndrome.
The exhibit originated in the United Kingdom and has traveled to China, Turkey, Canada, and South Africa. It was brought to Dublin by a resident by the name of Lito Ramirez. Ramirez has a child with Down syndrome and discovered some of the images when looking for accurate pictures of people living with Down syndrome for his non-profit group, Down Syndrome Achieves. He feels that the work of these photographers speaks to what Down syndrome can be if people look at it in a different way. People with Down syndrome can achieve so much and we need to break through the misconceptions.
This exhibit celebrates life and wonder through powerful and emotional imagery, while opening the viewer’s mind and shifting their perspective.
