Bobby Shriver Produces for Special Olympics

The eldest child of Sargent and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Bobby is one of the reasons Special Olympics funding continues to be there when it’s needed.

Bobby, after working as a journalist, followed by law school, and a stint in venture capitalism, went on to produce the first-ever primetime network program on the Special Olympics for ABC in 1987. That experience and the start of the successful A Very Special Christmas album (with Jimmy and Vicky Iovine), led him to forming Special Olympic Productions. Nine more A Very Special Christmas albums and the ongoing work of Special Olympic Productions have raised more than $100 million for Special Olympics.

Bobby also produced the movies Mary, Mother of Jesus for NBC (with his mother Eunice as co-executive producer) and True Lies, starring his brother-in-law, Arnold Schwartzenegger.

He has worked closely with singer Bono and others to form organizations to help ease the health and financial challenges facing the people of Africa.

Currently, Bobby Shriver is serving his second term on the Santa Monica (Calif.) City Council, where he resides.

This is one of a series of posts on the Shriver family.
