History

Our story begins before our first home was even purchased. Back in the 1990’s, Tim Vogel and David Potts were working together at a former multi-state provider agency that provided residential support for people with developmental disabilities. This was when they realized that it was very difficult for care provider organizations to go through the process of buying community-based properties in which to support the people they serve. When their provider agency was acquired by another company, Tim and Dave dove wholeheartedly into creating Scioto Properties in 1999. Scioto was the first company to address this need nationally.

The First Purchase

Scioto Properties purchased its first home, a ranch in Columbus, Ohio, in 2000. Once care providers caught on to the concept, the business experienced rapid growth.

By The Numbers

Scioto currently owns and manages over 550 homes in 26 states, serving more than 2,000 people. 2,000 is the number we focus on. That’s the number of people with developmental disabilities living in our homes. Scioto’s focus on housing ensures growth, prosperity and opportunity for many individuals with disabilities across the United States.
